As you may recall, in late-December and early-January, floods caused the evacuation of residents living in the Marysville area.  During that time there were two evacuation periods: a Voluntary evacuation period and a Mandatory evacuation period.

Please answer the questions on behalf of your entire household.

IF NECESSARY:

Voluntary evacuation period: January 1 and morning/early afternoon of January 2, 1997

Mandatory evacuation period: late afternoon/evening of January 2 through January 4, 1997, when re-entry to the area was not allowed.

01.                 Did your household evacuate because of the floods in January, 1997?

Q1    By evacuate, we mean people left the Marysville area because of the flood; either on their own or they were told to do so.

IF YES, ASK: Was that during the voluntary evacuation period or the mandatory evacuation period?

IF BOTH, ASK: When did MOST of the household evacuate?

INTERVIEWER NOTE: If the respondent still says BOTH, code as Mandatory.

         IF NECESSARY:

Voluntary evacuation period: January 1 and morning/early afternoon of January 2, 1997
